What you'll learn

Three principles, three questions and twelve commitments

The course is built on The Principles of Freedom by Faruq Hunter (2015). Every lesson points back to a page in the book, so you always know where an idea comes from.

By the end, you'll be able to:

  • explain what freedom means in the book, and tell a free environment from a controlled one;
  • answer the first question for yourself, What do you need?, and see where you depend on others today;
  • take stock of what you have to work with: land, people, tools and money;
  • write your own Moral Law and a plan for the far future, the near future and this week;
  • add value to the people and places around you through diplomacy, quality and reliable delivery, without ever begging for favour;
  • answer the third question, What can destroy your freedom?, and protect what you build without violence; and
  • commit, in your own words and with a first action for each, to all twelve commitments.
The twelve commitments

The promises at the heart of citizenship

At the end of each commitment module you choose "I commit to this" or "Not yet". "Not yet" is an honest answer, and it's welcome: you tell us why, a citizen liaison can follow up with you, and you keep learning.

How you're assessed

Fair, clear and on your side

Practice labs

Six short conversations with an AI playing a clearly fictional character, like a village planner or a county official. Each is scored against a rubric you can read first. Try as many times as you like, with no penalty.

The exam

75 minutes, online: 45 multiple-choice and scenario questions, plus two short written tasks. Pass with 70%. Your answers save as you go, and if your connection drops you can pick up where you left off within the time limit.

Your capstone

Your own freedom plan: what each commitment means for your life, and one first action with a date. It's about you, so there's no copying and no wrong life.

You can always ask a person. If you think an AI score got it wrong, ask for a free human review within 30 days. Before anything goes to the AI, we remove your name, email and Citizen ID.

Questions

About the course

Do I need to read the book first?

No. The course teaches everything you need, with the page reference for each idea if you'd like to read further.

Is there a deadline?

No. Go as slowly or as quickly as you like. Your progress is saved on any device and nothing expires.

What does "Not yet" mean for my certificate?

Your certificate is issued once you've said "I commit" to all twelve commitments. If you choose "Not yet" on one, you can keep learning and come back to it whenever you're ready. Someone from our team may reach out to talk it through.

Can I share my certificate?

Yes. Every certificate has a number and a QR code that anyone can check on our public verification page. Certificates don't expire, though one can be withdrawn for cheating.
